THE GOLDEN PRAGUE

Program

THE GOLDEN PRAGUE

Prague was called the golden crossroads, the hundred, the heart of Europe, the capital of the Holy Roman Empire. The core of Prague‘s future agglomeration began gradually to take shape between the 8th and 10th century on the left bank of the River Vltava around the area of Prague Castle and the Lesser Town. Evidence of settlement in the Lesser Town goes back to the end of the 8th century.

Prague’s oldest bridge was built to replace the Judith Bridge that had been badly damaged by floods in 1342. The Stone, or Prague, Bridge, called Charles Bridge since 1870, was begun in 1357 by Charles IV and was completed in 1402. The bridge is built of sandstone blocks, flanked at each end by fortified towers (Lesser Town Bridge Towers, Old Town Bridge Tower). Prague loved Mozart.

Since 1992, the historical center of Prague is listed as a cultural and historical heritage under the protection of UNESCO.
